Women in Horror Month: Vamplit Salutes Anne Rice

Articles, Arts and Literature, Arts and Literature News, Promotions Comments Off on Women in Horror Month: Vamplit Salutes Anne Rice

Each Wednesday, genre fiction publisher Vamplit Publishing hosts an interactive, Twitter-based chat on a topic relevant to the horror/suspense/thriller genre.  Prior topics have included “Vicious Vampires”, “Witches”, “Horror Movie Makeup”, and the Master of Suspense himself, Alfred Hitchcock.

This week, in honor of “Women in Horror Month”, Vamplit dedicated the discussion to New York Times Bestselling Author Anne Rice.

Easily one of the most influential women in horror, and the modern incarnation of The Gothic Tradition, Rice revolutionized the vampire genre with the modern classic Interview With the Vampire, in 1976.  Since that time, she has proven herself to be continuously relevant, inspiring, and an essential force in a genre that never ceases to challenge our perception of not only the world around us, but of ourselves.

Author Anne Rice

This week, THR reported the fourth novel Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles, The Tale of the Body Thief, is currently in development to become the third feature length film based on her best-selling series.  Interview With the Vampire, produced by Warner Brothers, made its way to the big screen in 1994, staring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst.  It was followed in 2002 by Queen of the Damned, staring Stuart Townsend and the late R&B singer Aaliyah.

Rice will release her latest novel, The Wolf Gift, on February 14th, followed by a book tour.
