The Originals Pilot: Klaus Wants to be King
Following last night’s episode of The Vampire Diaries, fans were finally treated to a trailer for next week’s episode entitled “The Originals”, a backdoor pilot which is already showing massive potential in becoming the next big thing for The CW. Decisively darker and more mature, The Originals will follow Klaus as he “returns to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans — a town he helped build centuries ago — and is reunited with his diabolical former protégé Marcel.”
But this is no small return to The Crescent City, as the brand new trailer shows Klaus not just coming back to settle old scores or secure his own safety, but with true ambition — a desire to have it all…again. “Loyalty. Family. I want what he has. I want it back. I want to be King,” he says. And while the potential of this show as its own series has yet to be officially determined by the network, after watching this promo it seems safe to say that’s exactly what he’ll become.

Joining Joseph Morgan (Klaus) from The Vampire Diaries are Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley) and Claire Holt (Rebekah) reprising their roles, with new additions Danielle Campbell, Daniella Pineda and Leah Pipes — as Klaus’s new love interest (he has a thing for blondes). And check out the official promo poster below, featuring the tag line “In New Orleans, the air is thick with blood.”
The Originals will air on April 25th, leaving The CW to decide whether or not it gets the green light, with Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec at the helm if it does.
