“Out With the Old”
Original Air Date: Friday March 16, 2012
Season 7, Episode 16

Historically, cursed objects have been things stolen from their rightful owners. The object carries with it the weight of the past and causes a path of destruction for the new owner. Amazing how an innocent “thing” can encase such evil. This week’s episode of Supernatural finds Sam and Dean on the hunt for cursed objects that have been unleashed to new owners…but along the way we can’t help but notice that Sam seems to be a cursed object himself. It is only a matter of time before we see what Lucifer has in store for him.

“Prince Siegfried”

Dean touches base with Frank about any leads on the coordinates Bobby gave them just before his passing. As usual, nada. The Winchester’s decide to investigate an odd death that was reported in Portland, Oregon. A ballerina danced her feet off and died while practicing.

They arrive as F.B.I. officers and demand to read the case file of the victim Irina. While they are reading the report, something is unfolding at the station. A police officer is watching over his young daughter in the evidence room. She eyeballs the pair of ballet slippers that Irina wore. They seem to be calling for her. The officer asks her to not touch them. She gets up to use the restroom and to her surprise, the ballet slippers have magically appeared in there. She tries them on and they conform to fit her feet. Suddenly the slippers spin her dangerously round and round, same as they did to Irina. Her father and Sam and Dean quickly remove the slippers. They inspect them and find that they were recently purchased at an antique store called, “Out with the Old”. While driving to the store they discuss that this must be a case of “cursed objects”. The slippers that were placed in the trunk of the car now magically appear in the back seat. Dean appears to be drawn to them, and Sam points out that the slippers have changed in size to match Dean’s feet. Dean resists the urge to put them on.

When they arrive at the antique shop they question the owner, Scott. He tells them that his mother recently died in a car crash and so he now wants to sell some of the old things his mother had stored in a safe. Dean notices that the objects Scott had sold had their curse boxes left behind. It is obvious to the Winchesters that Scott’s mother knew these were dangerous items and wished to keep them safe from people. Now they just have to retrieve the items that were sold.

They arrive too late to save a woman from drinking boiling water from her charming tea kettle. They were successful in retrieving a gramophone and vintage gentlemen’s magazine. When Sam and Dean return Scott offers them more information into the final days of his mother’s life. Scott said that his mother resisted selling the store to some pushing real estate agency, but then suddenly one day she signed the papers and sold it…completely out of character for her. But nothing matters now because his mother died in that awful car crash.

Definitely a Buyer’s Market

Sam leaves to do some more investigating, while Dean takes a stroll outside. Dean notices that all of the shops on the street have “sold” signs on them by the same real estate agent, Joyce Bicklebee. When Dean looks up the agency on his computer it won’t let him access the site. He calls Frank to see if he can break through the site’s firewall. Meanwhile, Sam is at the wheel and is struggling not to fall asleep while driving. He fails and nearly crashes head on into a semi. When Sam meets up with Dean, he admits that he has not been sleeping because he does not want Lucifer to take control of him. All he can hear and see if Lucifer taunting and singing and annoying him. Dean implores Sam to get some sleep. Sam leaves and decides to get an insomnia busting cup of joe. While at the coffee stand, the realtor’s assistant, George, is picking up his bitchy boss’s coffee. George recognizes Sam and scurries off to tell his boss who he has spotted. Miss Bicklebee brutally insults George for getting her coffee order wrong and informs him that she will eat the Winchesters herself. It is revealed that Miss Bicklebee and George are both from the Leviathan. Bicklebee and George come up with a plan to trap the Winchesters.

Frank calls Dean to inform him that he is trying to break through the firewall of the Bicklebee website and it is from GeoThrive, a subsidiary of Dick Roman’s Leviathan empire. Dean and Sam next get a phone call from Scott. They rush over to the antique store because Scott believes that he is in danger because he looked into a cursed mirror and now wants to kill himself. What Sam and Dean don’t know is that Bicklebee and George have taken Scott hostage and forced him to call the guys over.

What’s the Catch?

When Sam and Dean arrive they instantly know they are trapped. Dean recognizes Bicklebee. She reveals to the Winchesters that they are buying up property as part of a bigger Leviathan plan. Bicklebee fully intends on eating Sam and Dean, and attacks them. During the struggle, George helps the guys defeat Bicklebee. As reward for helping them, he wishes to eat his boss’s head. She has been a tyrant and unbearable. Dean question George about what the Leviathan are up to. George tells them that the Levaithan are building a research center in Wisconsin to find a cure for cancer…and that the Leviathan are only here to help.

Dean and Sam load up the cursed objects onto a trailer and head off to Frank’s. When they arrive they find nothing but blood splattered all over Frank’s trashed motor home. His computer screens are cracked, but they can tell that Frank broke through the firewalls of GeoThrive. All fingers now point to Dick Roman.
