Sons of Anarchy S7 Ep 3 “Playing with Monsters” Recap

Sons of Anarchy (FX) Comments Off on Sons of Anarchy S7 Ep 3 “Playing with Monsters” Recap

Our weekly SOA excursion opens with Amber and the girls working on their first feature, “Skankenstein” at the Stockton warehouse. The skank in question is shocked back to life for some girl-on-girl action while the MC looks on. Will Vivid Video be worried? Probably not… But the guys approve.

At Wendy’s Juice and Unser have another heart to heart. Juice says he will get out of town if Unser will help him do one last thing. Unser agrees after saying that his help comes with a condition. That Juice spills what he knows about Tara’s murder.

Back at the docks, the MC gets filled in by a Tong lieutenant about what they found at the set up crime scene of last ep. Yes, they found the heroin. But only one dead guy. This takes Jax off the game for a second, but despite the curveball, he sticks to official story of finding the two muscle men dead.

Jax and the MC start to saddle up to see Tully and the AB about selling the rest of the heroin when the meet up is over. But before they can go, Marks and his suicide door Rolls Royce pulls up (so nice!).  He is not amused. Even less so, when he hears Jax’s shaky story about what happen to the Chinese’s guns and H. He tells Jax that the difference between his former boss, Dominic Pope and himself is a matter of style. Pope rose in the streets due to smarts and savvy. Marks says he got where he is by being ruthless. A ruthlessness that will be applied to the MC if he catches Jax lying to him.

Jax gets out of the car and tells the group they aren’t going to see White now. Instead, it’s gonna be a Black day.

After the intro, we find SAMCRO out in Oakland, catching up with Tyler, the new street head of the One9ers. Jax begins to bitch that he needs more backup on the streets, offers Tyler an in with the heroin he’s scored for some support with Marks. Tyler is hesitant and knows he’s out of order given his ties to Marks. But the lure of some extra loot sways him. However, he says he needs some help to quell a problem in the ranks with some One9ers who wants more aggressive action against the Chinese and Maya. Jax tell him the MC will back him and after getting a name from him, he puts his deadly plan in motion.

At Charming PD, Unser gives Chief Jarry the Juice/Gemma planted story about the Chinese killing Tara. When Jarry presses for more specifics, Unser claims his source has to stay low. Which is actually close to the truth.

At the house, Ratboy is hooking up with Brooke while she should be watching the baby. Wendy breaks up the little love-fest and scolds Rat for bringing a naive youngster further into the sphere of SAMCRO. You can see the weight of her bad mistakes on her frame as she tells Rat to stay away.

In Stockton, Charlie and Jax have ironed out some details for a plan off screen. Charlie says he doesn’t like it, but that he will play his part. That done, Jax and the Club rolls out to see the disaffected One9ers, two of whom look like Kanye West and Roland Marley deciding to slang dope. Jax sells them on another back up plan, one which involves ripping off the Maya’s warehouse. The former music superstars agree to Jax’s subterfuge.

At DiosaGemma and Nero’s day is interrupted by a fight between one of the girls, Sandy, and her dad. Dad wants his money and had gotten physical. Gemma steps in and gets the pimp hand for her trouble. This leads to Nero going ballistic on Dad’s head. To top the whole experience off,  young Abel sees a good portion of the ugliness. When Gemma tries to explain that Sandy’s father was bad, Abel asks if his father is bad too. Gemma, for once, is almost speechless.

In Stockton, Jax and his One9er dupes roll up on the Maya’s warehouse. They break in and as soon as the 9ners find the loot, the boys shoot them in the back, on cue. They then call Charlie and tell him to put the rest of the plan in motion. Jax has gone so cold that when Gemma calls, he’s almost chipper about his day.

The Club rolls to Diosa to witness the aftermath of the afternoon’s violence. Brooke, like a sucker, called the cops, so the new chief is waiting for them. She gives the group the stank eye about the drama, but seems specifically interested in Chibs. Jax tries to smooth everything over by saying that everyone wants to keep Charming safe and profitable. Jarry seems to agree and says she’d like a meet-up with Chibs to discuss the potential of a partnership with her and the Club. She also drops that an APB is going out on Juice.

In Indian Hills, Jerry gets a call from Bobby as “Elvis” is fishing for intel on how the dead muscle man went missing. Jerry plays very cool, casually saying he thinks one of the dead guys’ name was Gibbs. All the time, he is fingering some dog tags while staring at Bobby’s planted shotgun.

Back in Oakland, Jax relates to Tyler that his first problem is down and if he has others, he should tell any fence sitters to be in Stockton at 4:00pm. While chopping it up with the One9ers, Chibs gets a call to go see his P.O. at a Charming diner. Jax gives him leave as he grumbles about the harassment.

In Stockton, Charlie plays the role by telling the incensed Mayas that the One9ers are massing for a power play on their territory this afternoon. The Maya Lieutenant is rightfully skeptical of how quickly Charlie knows about all this, but the cards have been dealt. He tells Nero to saddle up with his men for a take down of the One9ers. When Nero tries to back out, the ethnic shame card get slapped down. Nero is in, whether he likes it or not.

At the Charming diner, Chibs finds Juice and Unser waiting for him instead of his PO. When he starts to bolt, Juice says he needs just one question answered: Did everyone vote for Mr. Mayhem in Juice’s case or was it just Jax? Chibs’ silence speaks volumes. When Juice appeals to the two men’s former close friendship, Chibs says he should take his gun and eat a bullet. Juice slinks out only saved from Chibs by Unser’s appeal of not killing Juice in front of witness, dozens of them cops.

Back at Diosa, the group briefs each other with Chibs, Bobby and Jax all relating their stories. Chibs is put on Chief Jarry duty, Bobby says he will send the Gibbs intel to a bounty hunter he knows. When Amber says some dudes are waiting in the alley, a tongue-in-cheek post-racial American moment appears when Jax asks what color they are (note to Kurt: SAMCRO is dealing with a U.N. level diversity of ethnic opponents this season. Don’t forget there’s a whole family of Persians who want them dead too!). As they scramble out to deal with their individual assignments, Bobby asks Jax if he wants to slow down. Jax says no.

At Gemma’s, we find the matriarch talking to her birds. Or is she? Again, the comments seem to be for the woman she killed, Tara. Wendy and Brooke break the spell saying Unser is on site. Wendy takes a second to admonish Brooke not to get in deep with Ratboy.

Unser relates Juice/Chibs meeting to Gemma.  Gemma decides that Wendy and Unser have to get Juice out of town… Like now. Anywhere but Charming would be preferable. My hometown of San Jose, CA even gets a shout out (the Super 8 by the Tully exit on 101 comes highly recommended, by the way).

In Stockton, Nero and the Mayas take down the clueless One9ers. Meanwhile, Jax and Tyler spin the bloodletting of the afternoon to Marks as Tyler taking care business. Marks is still unimpressed but says he doesn’t have time for small time beefs. He strongly suggests that Tyler handles the problem. As he drives away, Jax mocks his gravitas.

Night falls and Chibs meets up with Jarry at a parking garage. There, he passes her the company envelope. You know, the one filled with hundreds. In a mild surprise, Jarry takes the payoff, proving while she may be no nonsense, she’s not above a little boost to the retirement plan. Her interest in Chibs seems more than professional, as well. But she agrees to slow down the APB on Juice as much as she can.

Somewhere out in the boonies, Juice, Unser and Wendy roll up to a fleabag hotel (I won’t mention where it looks like they are, but it starts with “F” and ends with “No,” which really is fitting when you think about it). Nero is let in by Brooke at Gemma’s after a day from Hell and is offered some cake. Gemma and Jax have the rest of the confection and are walking up the path to an unknown house. Strangely, mom and son seem closer than ever given the events of the last few weeks. That’s a bad sign, folks.

Indeed, it gets even more crazy as we see Gemma has come to Pimp Dad house on the pretext of making peace with him. She offers him the cake and the “come-hither” eyes. He takes the cake into the kitchen and she lets Jax in behind her. Pimp Dad meets the SOA logo up close and personal as Jax goes to town on him. The Reaper shows as Gemma keeps watch out the front door.

What do you think, Crow Lovers? Will Jax’s misdirections fool SAMCRO’s foes forever? Who is Gibbs and what will Bobby find out about him? Will Chibs and Chief Jarry soon be doing the vertical samba? And is she actually bent in a non-sexual way? Be here next time and find out! Till then, Fear the Reaper…
