A group of friends pay a visit to the city morgue to surprise their friend Amy (Danielle Harris) for her birthday, who is working the graveyard shift.  All hell breaks loose when killer Jacob Goodnight (Glenn “Kane” Jacobs) rises to wreak more havoc on these unsuspecting guests.

The film stars Danielle Harris, America’s reigning Scream Queen, and shows no sign of giving up her crown anytime soon.  Harris plays coroner Amy, a young woman who is working the graveyard shift on her birthday at the city morgue.  It’s nice to finally see Danielle in an adult role while at the same time being sassy, and finally put to good use on film.  No stranger to battling baddies bigger than her (and usually meeting her demise), Danielle proves to be a little badass when she comes up against Jacob Goodnight.

Katharine Isabelle (American Mary, Freddy VS Jason) plays party girl Tamara, Amy’s best friend and who has an unhealthy obsession with serial killers. When she and her boyfriend, Carter (Lee Majdoub) wander off from the party to look for Jacob’s body, they get more than they bargained for.  Isabelle is a great addition to the film, even adding some comic relief from her spaz-like panic.  Never has she been more likeable, or sexy, than she is in this film.

Kaj Erik-Eriksen who plays Seth, a co-worker at the morgue, and who also happens to be in love with Amy.  He brings a vulnerable likeness to his character, even rooting for him to win.  Many people may not know Eriksen, but if you watched The Commish or The 4400, chances are you already know of him.  Eriksen has great screen presence and should be in more films.

Bringing back pro-wrestler Glenn “Kane” Jacobs as killer Jacob Goodnight was a good idea.  Not since Kane Hodder has a serial killer been so intimidating in stature and physicality.  It’s obvious Jacobs has a lot of fun playing the villain, and should there be a third film, hopefully he returns.

Directors Jen and Sylvia Soska, also known as the Twisted Twins, know their horror. From their debut film Dead Hooker in a Trunk to See No Evil 2, its great to see female directors finally grabbing the horror genre by its balls.  After making waves with American Mary last year, its clear now these girls have no intention of slowing down anytime soon and we should all be grateful for that.  Not only do they have a segment completed for the ABC’s of Death 2, they are currently filming the action movie Vendetta starring Dean Cain, and have signed on to direct Painkiller JaneThe girls have signed a 6 picture deal with WWE Studios/Lionsgate.

See No Evil 2 is not to be taken seriously, and after 8 years, its tough to bring back a character after so much time has passed. But the Soska Twins do an impressive job of bringing him back with a vengeance, even without much gore.  And though the script, written by Nathan Brookes and Bobby Lee Darby, may be a little clunky in parts, that doesn’t mean its a horrible film.  In fact, I rather enjoyed it.  From the beautifully shot cinematography to the performances from its cast, See No Evil 2 is a fun, worthy entry into the horror genre…and just in time for Halloween.

See No Evil 2 is now available on DVD/BluRay and Video OnDemand.

About The Author

Covering mainly movies, there’s nothing that gets Mike's blood going like a good horror film, old and new. When he’s not writing or watching horror, you can find him catching re-runs of television shows like I Love Lucy, The Simpsons, and Reba, among many. Last year, Mike was able to flex his writing muscles by submitting a screenplay to the Shriekfest Film and Screenplay festival where he was a finalist for “Best Feature Screenplay.” While he didn’t win, that hasn’t stopped him from pushing forward to establish a screenwriting career in horror. Mike is currently working on two scripts: Slicer: The Sauk County Massacre (formerly titled Hell Weekend) and The Haunting of Willow Falls Manor.
