Sony PlayStation gave some good reasons as to why you should get a PlayStation 4.
Sony PlayStation began their presentation with a commercial for their service VUE. What is VUE? In short, it’s for people that want to “cut the cord.” It was released in 2015 with other providers being DirectTV Now and Sling TV.
Then the actual presentation starts with a group of five people playing sitar music. I thought it was cool. But then I like music from other parts of the world. And while I enjoyed it very much I didn’t understand why it was there. It’s like I love burgers, but why are you eating a burger while taking a shower? Not saying it can’t be done. But a little explanation would be nice. It could be a way to introduce the first game, Uncharted the Lost Legacy. But I couldn’t tell since the volume was set very low. No, not my volume. The volume from the stream. It wasn’t till they were half way through the second trailer that the volume issue got fixed. But let’s ignore the technical issues. We can always watch them again on YouTube.
First let’s look at what will be exclusive to PlayStation and what wont. Here is the list.
- Uncharted the Lost Legacy
- Horizon Zero Dawn the Frozen Wilds
- Days Gone
- Shadow of the Colossus
- God of War
- Detroit Become Human
- Star Child
- The Inpatient
- Monster of the Deep Final Fantasy XV
- Bravo Team
- Monster Hunter World
- Marvel vs Capcom Infinite
- Call of Duty WWII
- Destiny 2 (Has exclusive content for PlayStation)
Just like with the Microsoft presentation, there were a few surprises as to games that went exclusive, mainly Spiderman. I would have thought they wanted everyone to enjoy the adventures of Spiderman. But since the movie is a Sony movie, I can understand why they would want to keep the game “in-house.” I will also say this. If there is a bundle that contains a PS4 and Horizon Zero Dawn, I would get that. Horizon Zero Dawn is a game I would very much like to play. Now back to the rest of the story.
Since I couldn’t hear the audio of the first trailer, all I had to go on was the visuals. Watching it, I thought this was another Tomb Raider game. I thought “Hey, this looks like an interesting take on the Tomb Raider story.” But the more I watched it, the more I started to doubt that this was a Tomb Raider game. Towards the end I was thinking “I don’t think this is a Tomb Raider game.” Then I saw that it was an Uncharted game. That surprised me since I had come to expect Nathan Drake with all the other Uncharted games. But since I haven’t played any of the games, I don’t really know what’s going on here.
I was surprised to see an expansion for Horizon Zero Dawn. It was released this year in February and the expansion, Horizon Zero Dawn the Frozen Wilds, is expected to be released by the end of this year. Now one of two things happened here. Either they were already working on the expansion while making the original game or they rushed the expansion so people didn’t lose interest in the game. Please don’t let it be the second one. We have all seen what happens when movies and games are rushed and it never good.
I am going to just come out and say it. The next gamed they revealed was a zombie game. I mean it does have puzzles that you can solve, but it’s still another zombie game. Days Gone does have a “Walking Dead” feel to it, so fans of that show might enjoy it more than others. Me, I am not a zombie person. So I can leave this … well, to the zombies.
The Monster Hunter series of games are ones that I wanted to get into when it first came out. Yet, this was also around the time that I started to leave console gaming and focus more on PC gaming, mainly Star Wars Galaxies and World of Warcraft. So I don’t feel any close connection to this game. Even though it has a huge following.
Shadow of the Colossus is a game that was released on the PlayStation 2 back in 2005. In 2018 PlayStation will be releasing another Shadow of the Colossus but it has been said that this is a re-MAKE not a re-MASTER. I had to look up what the difference is really was. So a remastered version would be the exact same game but with better graphics, sound and music. A remake is a game that is based on the original game but it is not an original game. This differs from the sequel in that the sequel take the original game or idea and pushes the story further.
Marvel vs Capcom Infinite is a fighting game that comes out September 19th. Yet what they showed was a storyline that isn’t so much Marvel vs Capcom as it is Ultron verses both of those universe. If you would like to try it out, the demo is available for all the platforms.
Next is Call of Duty WWII. From what I saw of the presentation, it is still Call of Duty but with different maps. It will be available on all platforms November 3 2018
The next games are being released for the virtual reality version of PlayStation. From everything I have read, whenever there is a comparison of the three VR devices (Oculus rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR) the PlayStation VR comes in third due to it being uncomfortable or unusual to wear. But for those that enjoy using the PlayStation VR here are your games.
It’s Skyrim but in a first person, VR environment. What else to you need to know?
This is an interesting concept. It a third person action/adventure game but it’s in VR. How does that work? As for the game, it has cool colors and looks very futuristic. I might want to hear more about this later.
This was creepy and uncomfortable. And I am sure people will love it. It reminded me of Amnesia in that there seems to be a lot of walking around but you aren’t fighting anyone. It seems like the hospital is trying to convince you that you did something but did you?
Monster of the Deep Final Fantasy XV
Wow. If this isn’t a clear definition of the term “money grab.” I hate to say that, but it’s so obvious. So the idea is that the guys from Final Fantasy XV are going on a fishing trip and they invite you. So that is the whole game, you are fishing with the guys of Final Fantasy XV.
Here is the quick and simple of this game. Take Counter Strike and add VR. For people that have played hours, upon hours or Counter Strike or Call of Duty this will be orgasm inducing.
This is another game that is third person and is action/adventure. Yet here you are a small mouse exploring the world. But wait. It’s not just any mouse but a special mouse. This mouse has a glove that can turn into a weapon that he uses to fight off his enemies.
God of War
This is another game that makes me want to get a PlayStation. So Kratos is an old man now and has a son. (It was bound to happen, right.) Now, he travels the land fighting and killing and teaching his son the same. So why do I want to play it. The World Serpent wants to HELP Kratos. What? Why? I must find out more. And I will IN 2018
Detroit Become Human is a unique game in that you are playing as androids trying to start a revolution against humanity. Yet, you can do it is a peaceful manner or in a vengeful manner. The choice is completely left up to the player. I’m thinking this game might appeal more towards the GTA fans because of the “rise up against your oppressor” message. Yes, GTA is not a “rise up against your oppressor” type game but you are fighting to live your life how you want. That seem to also be the message of Detroit Become Human.
Destiny 2 will be coming out to all the platforms September 6th but the PlayStation version will have some exclusive content. Yet, I don’t see myself getting Destiny 2 on any of the systems. I have yet to finish the first one. So until I do I want to wait and get it later. (Like during a sale, maybe.)
As I said before I was a bit surprised Spiderman will be exclusive to PlayStation. But when you really think about it makes good business sense. While I won’t be pinning to play Spiderman (I stopped playing video games based on movies long ago. It’s not worth the time and effort to play a game you know will be bad. I say that about ALL video games based on movies.) I am sure other people will. But they will have to buy a PS4 to do it. So I expect to see the sales of PS4 to increase next year when it is released.
