Lost Girl Recap: “Arachnofaebia”
Original Air Date on SyFy: Monday February 27, 2012
Season 1 Episode 7

Jealousy has a tendency to override every emotion and action we do when we are consumed by it. Our hearts may be rooted elsewhere, but that vicious beast, Jealousy, has a life of its own. It can cause us to make things up and distort the truth. In this week’s episode of Lost Girl, jealousy is personified by a rogue Under Fae that has escaped its owner and feeds off of the rage that insecurity gives to jealousy.

Who Is The Third Wheel?

There have been a series of murder-suicides, all within confined households in a 5 mile radius area. The most recent happened when an elderly woman killed her own sister at home with a knitting needle. A local realtor hires Kenzi, who claims to be a spiritual cleanser, to come and rid the house of any negative spirits. Bo cannot resist to tag along and watch Kenzi’s overly exaggerated performance as a Russian babushka. During the cleanse, a huge hairy spider crawls inside of Kenzi’s purse. When Kenzi and Bo leave the house, they find Dyson and Hale outside investigating. Dyson suspects that something Fae related is going on, due to the unusual circumstantial deaths.

Bo and Dyson meet up later that evening at the Dal. Dyson discusses the odd case more with Bo and asks her to keep her ears open in the event that the Dark Fae are involved. At that moment Lauren arrives. She and Bo had earlier made plans to hang out. Dyson refuses to leave them alone, and the threesome have an awkward time together. Meanwhile, Hale and Kenzi are watching over them and wish they had some popcorn. Kenzi reaches to grab something from inside her purse and believes she was just bitten. Hale digs inside and finds many different sharp items that Kenzi keeps handy. He assures her that she was not bit. Kenzi complains that she has come down with a terrible headache and goes home. Dyson and Lauren start bickering about Fae business and Bo tries to settle things down with a round of shots. Lauren has had enough and leaves. Bo returns home confused by Dyson’s blatant jealousy of Lauren. She notices that Kenzi is acting a bit confrontational and leaves her alone. While Bo takes a shower, the spider leaves Kenzi’s purse and finds its way to Bo and bites her. The next morning, Bo complains about a headache and Kenzi sympathizes because she has one as well. Kenzi and Bo agree to visit Lauren about their edgy attitudes and headaches. As Lauren inspects Kenzi, Bo hallucinates that Kenzi and Lauren are kissing. Lauren believes that something in their home may be making them sick. Bo and Kenzi begin to argue and split apart. Bo decides to see Dyson about the case.

This Tangled Web We Weave

At the police station, Dyson explains to Hale how all of the victims and perpetrators connect in direct contact someway. Bo arrives and tells Dyson that she has had no luck with any Fae leads, but leaves him with a file of possible suspects. Before she leaves she asks Dyson to do a background check on Kenzi.  Dyson is confused by this request but tells her that there is no reason for her not to trust Kenzi. Hale pulls out a shirt from the case’s evidence box that is covered with spider webs. Dyson takes this to the Fae lab for Lauren to examine. Lauren later calls Dyson to tell him that the web was made by a rare Under Fae called a Djieien. Its venom causes hallucinations and paranoia. Dyson now knows that Bo has benn bitten because she has all of the symptoms. Lauren elaborates that as long as the spider lives it will continue to feed off of the adrenalized pherenomes from its victims. It causes them to stay paranoid and eventually their rage will take over and they will kill others. Dyson rushes to help Bo, and Lauren notifies the Light Fae authorities about the dangerous situation.

When Bo returns home, she finds Kenzi in a panicked state searching for an enormous spider. Bo joins in and they both succumb to their debilitating jealousy, hallucinations, and paranoia. They become increasingly hostile toward each other. Hale arrives before Dyson at their place and is knocked out by Bo. Bo becomes hungry and decides to feed on Hale. She feeds enough to come to realization that something strange is going on with them. She tries to find Kenzi, but when she opens a door the Light Fae authorities have quarantined them all to the house.

Quarantined!

Dyson pulls up and questions his old friend, Serena (now Head of Security for the Light Fae) why they need to exterminate everyone in the house. Serena allows Dyson two hours to come up with a plan to save his friends. After that time, she will have no choice but to exterminate them all.

Bo calls Dyson and explains that she has healed herself and is aware of what is going on. Hale awakens just in time to witness the spider bite him. Now he is infected. Armed with an ax, Bo searches for the spider and finds it. She chops it in half but it stunned when it instantly fuses back together. It is impossible to kill.

Dyson cannot enter the place to help them, so he takes off to the Dal to seek guidance from Trick. When he arrives he sees that Lauren is with Trick. Dyson is infuriated that Lauren called in a hit squad, but Trick defends Lauren’s decision. The Djieien has the potential to kill many lives. Dyson gets out the file that Bo gave him earlier with some leads. Trick recognizes a name in the file, Gordon Hurley. Gordon Hurley is a Dark Fae that collects exotic animals and Under fae, but has been seen the past few months…ever since the murder-suicides stated happening. Trick gives Dyson and Lauren his address and they quickly retrieve him and bring him back to the Dal for questioning.  Trick has learned that the Djieien implants its heart away from its body, this is why it is impossible to kill. Gordon professes his love for the spider and they immediately suspect that the heart has been implanted in him. Lauren removes the heart from Gordon’s abdomen and destroys it. This is all just in time because Hale, Bo and Kenzi were in the middle of nearly killing each other. Lauren is able to convince the Ash to order the extermination cancelled in the nick of time as well.

Dyson visits Bo and tells her that he doesn’t trust Lauren’s motives with Bo because she is too close to the Ash. Bo counters back that she trusts Lauren because she knows that she cares about her…which is more than Dyson is able to admit to Bo. Dyson is offended and tells Bo that the next time she needs healing, call Lauren.

Quotable Quotes:

Dyson to Bo:  “Truth is humans sometimes just kill each other, you know? Take away their flat screens and their minivans…they’re just still barbarians.”

Kenzi to Bo:  “Poor Bo. So many choices…just one vag.”

Kenzi to Lauren: “My head is pounding harder than a sailor on shore leave.”
