Bethesda presentation at E3

Entertainment News Comments Off on Bethesda presentation at E3

E3 has come and gone and there is a lot to talk about.

Let’s begin with Bethesda. The following games were shown at E3 for Bethesda:

  • Fallout Shelter
  • Doom
  • Fallout 4
  • Elder Scroll Online: Morrowind
  • Elder Scroll Legend
  • Dishonor: Death of the outsider
  • Quake champions
  • The Evil Within 2
  • Wolfenstein 2

Now let’s talk about what they said about these games. The biggest news for Fallout Shelter, for me, was that people are still playing it. In their presentation it was said that over one hundred million people have played it. But in all honestly, this is a game that was released in 2015. So when you do the math that is roughly forty thousand players in the last two and a half years. That is a great accomplishment.

Next, Bethesda announced that the virtual reality versions of Doom and Fallout 4 are being released this year. I was able to attend Quake Con last year and got to try out Fallout 4 in VR. I cannot describe in words how realistic it was. It was great. In fact it was so realistic the person that was doing the demo was close to me so I wouldn’t step out of the play area and accidently hit someone. Yes, it’s that real. Another thing about VR games like Doom and Fallout 4 is that you will have to upgrade you video card. I have heard that the minimum for these games is having a 900 series NVidia card. I currently have a 700 series.

They also talked about Elder Scroll Online: Morrowind. I am on the fence with this one, leaning to yes. I have played Elder Scroll Online, although I am only level 15. It’s a rich and interesting game. I have a character in each faction and none of them crossover. While I have played 3 characters to level 15, it could be said that I have played to 45. (3 x 15 = 45) So I am curious to see how Morrowind plays. One thing I wonder is if this will be for the maxed out characters or can you start from level one. An interesting thing I read on the website is that there will be 4x4x4 PVP. So that means there will be three teams of 4 people. Other games just do two teams; 1v1, 3v3, 6v6. A three team PVP mode sounds interesting.

Not to be left behind, Bethesda released Elder Scroll Legend earlier this year to complete with other digital card games. And now they are adding a story mode to game. But that’s not all. It was shown that a Skyrim expansion will also be coming this year. How do I feel about this? Lukewarm. While the trailer for the Skyrim looks very impressive,  Blizzard Entertainment seems to have a good thing with Hearthstone. This looks like Hearthstone but with a lot better graphics. But the addition of a story mode might interest me enough to try this out.

And speaking of Skyrim, how would you like to play Skyrim on your Nintendo switch? Yes, Skyrim is coming to the Nintendo Switch. There is even a feature where you can play as Link in Skyrim. I am sure many Legend of Zelda will love that. But that’s not all. When you are fighting monsters, the controls work like the weapons equipped. So you swing the controller for swords and other melee weapons. Draw back the controller with bows. As for me, this might be the reason I would get a Nintendo Switch.

Also revealed was the third chapter of the Dishonored series, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. While the trailer looks very cool, I won’t be playing it. But for a good reason. I haven’t played the second one and it seems like each game really is another chapter in the story. So I don’t want to ruin such a great story by jumping ahead without know some of the information.

Another game that was reveled during E3 was The Evil Within 2. I am not a fan of the horror genre and the first one looked too creepy. And it looks like they turned everything up with this second one. Just watching the trailer had me thinking “What is going on here?” But I am sure that those that did play the first one will understand and love what the trailer was saying and showing.

While Doom invented the first person shooter, Quake elevated the first person shooter to a new level. No longer where you fighting a demon with predictable moves. Now you were fighting another person with the same or better weapons than you. Sure Halo made the multiplayer popular, but Quake is where it all started. And now we can go back to those glory days with Quake Champions. Everyone has an equal chance to win one million dollars during the Quake World Championship ending at Quake Con this year. You can practice for it at Quake.com and get a key for the beta.

The last game revealed during Bethesda’s presentation was Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. After thinking about it a bit, I think I might want to play this one instead of Wolfenstein: The New Order. With The New Order you are already starting at the bottom. By that I mean, America is already under Nazi rule. The role you play in the game is to bring up people to start a revolution with you. Then you group joins another groups. And you all go through the US killing Nazi’s. That is the short version.

But there is one thing I wanted to save for last. It’s not a game, more like a game service. I will let the website speak for itself:

Your favorite worlds just got a little bit bigger. Creation Club is a collection of all-new content for both Fallout 4 and Skyrim. It features new items, abilities and gameplay created by Bethesda Games Studios and outside development partners, including the best community creators. Creation Club content is fully curated and compatible with the main game and official add-ons.

Creation Club will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC later this summer.

To learn more about Creation Club, including how you can work with Bethesda Game Studios and become a Creator, visit creationclub.com.”

From the sound of it, it seems like it is a one stop shop for player and developer created mods for Skyrim and Fallout 4.
